I live about a 20 minutes walk from Assembly Row and Assembly station on the orange line, on Governor Winthrop Rd. My neighborhood is pretty quiet and all of my neighbors are friendly. I also live near a small lake with a small open grassy area with picnic tables, which is nice. The neighborhood is moderately diverse. My roommates and I are all people of color and many of my neighbors are also people of color. I feel very safe here. I have no complaints.
Moved to Boston for work and landed in Somerville.
It’s a funny place... Slumerville which gentrified and became super liberal. All the old Mc’s priced out of Southie to Winter Hill mixed with college kids and their landlords - crunchy artsy fartsy wives of lawyers and programmers. Bike lanes and littered McGillicuddys nips.
Pain to get anywhere… No one ever bothered me here. Close to the city.
Improving schools. Great food and art scene. Stupid expensive. Great job opportunities in Boston. Grungey; everyone is a renter; we are the grunge…
Government is … um legal weed and psychedelics and bike lanes and good nonsense on nonsense. Stupid high water bill, parking tickets, trash tickets, etc. High rent. Because jobs and young people. :D People are NPR NPC and libertarians and librarians and stuff.
Idk. I’m glad I moved but boy do I miss Somerville / Winter hill / Highland Ave / Prospect hill. I’m so grateful for the community that made my experience and shifted my mindset. <3

I lived in somerville for 3 years around the pandemic. It was a very walkable area and the public transit (while it had its issues) was overall reliable and allowed me to feel connected and get to where I couldn't on foot. There were so many tasty restaurants from a variety of backgrounds and I always felt like a new one would pop up just as I had tried a previous one. I enjoyed how much culture the town seemed to have - there were always local events like Porchfest or the Fluff Festival to attend and many neighborhoods had their own leaders creating activities if you weren't afraid to make friends.
