I have moved around the Saint Louis area a lot and a couple of years ago I decided to move out to Alton, Illinois. To this day it is one of the best and easiest decisions I have made. Alton is very peaceful and friendly and beautiful. There is no litter in the streets or frequent crime, and the people and customer service of businesses are very friendly and agreeable.
Personally I love Alton, it’s a cute little river town/city and I love the community, I like to say we’re a lil hippy town and we love a good festival with live music. I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve always loved the location. You can drive for 20-45 minutes and end up in downtown St. Louis, Edwardsville, Grafton, etc.. There are fun bars downtown and nice parks such as Riverfront or Glazebrook in Godfrey. The community comes together for events all the time and everyone is so nice. Majority of the crime is all condensed to certain areas which are pretty easy to avoid. There’s affordable housing in Alton and Godfrey has nice subdivisions and more land available than Alton. It’s a growing community with lots of job opportunities in the future thanks to the Simmons creating Altonworks and many other projects they’re currently working on. I can’t wait to see where Alton will be in the next 10 years and the opportunities we’ll all have.
Decent town, Germania is pretty decent. Kinda boring, but the caves are fun. Overall, it has what you need and a couple of fun things to do around.
