The town has several restaurants, including three pizza places. Pizza Haus is probably the best one and the one that has been in town for the longest. There is one bar on the south side of town, and it has GREAT food! But when it comes to where people like to hang out and enjoy each other's company while watching the big game, people usually choose to have a barbecue at their own place. Some of the people around here really know their way around a burger and a grilled chicken.

The Ashland fire station is right in the middle of town, and the police headquarters are located in city hall, so they can usually react pretty quickly to situations. The city does a good job of keeping the city park and the roadsides clean, as well as making sure sewer systems are running correctly. The local laws are all fine and benefit the citizens. When it comes to government officials, it's a little bit more complicated. Recently, the Board of Alderman and the mayor went at each other trying to get everyone fired, which cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars while benefiting no one. As for state government, I think most people are happy with who has been elected.

It seems like people here either exercise religiously or don't exercise at all. There is a gym in town, but it's not the best quality. The high school track and weight room are open to most members of the community, and there are many people trying to get a YMCA in town. Personally, I use the high school track to run, but I also am a member of the Jefferson City YMCA so I go there a lot as well. When it comes to hospitals, Ashland is too small for a big one, but there are several in both Columbia and Jefferson City. My town does have an ambulance service though, along with a physical therapy business and a pharmacy.
