I am a student attending Northwestern University which is located in the township of Evanston. I have spent the last two years living in Evanston, and am about to start my third. Going into town has been one of the best aspects of my college career. It is a beautiful, diverse community with so much today and so many community members willing to engage. The relationship the town has with Northwestern is a great one, and the permanent residents of Evanston make it known through their welcoming demeanor and inviting atmosphere. I love going into town with friends on a sunny Sunday afternoon and choosing from the (many!) delicious options to eat. From signature frozen custard to authentic Indian food, we call Evanston the food capital of Illinois for a reason. It has been a joy calling it home, and I'm looking forward to my continued engagement with it over the next two years and beyond!

Evanston is a melting pot of race and culture that is formed from the first day of kindergarten. The town of Evanston is a great place to raise children and get them exposed to different cultures and is unique in that fashion. Its a quiet town but you will see kids playing together in the parks, the schools in Evanston are all top notch. The high school provides the highest quality education that you will find in anywhere in the country. I was fortunate enough to go through the school system and able to take advantage of all the opportunities that were available to me. Teen youth job programs, summer camps for adolescents, mentoring programs, DARE program, just to name a few. While the cost of living is high especially with the taxes, you are getting a lot for your money. Evanston Hospital is one of the best facilities in the country, Lake Michigan borders the entire city and provides great places for picnics, exercise or just sitting by the lake.

Evanston is an amazing city just north of Chicago. Its beautiful lakefront, easy access to the city and the esteemed Northwestern University are just a few of its attractive attributes. Like any large city, it does have some pitfalls. Due to its short distance from Chicago, home and rental prices are pretty high and the taxes are astronomical due to it being in Cook County. However, all in all Evanston is a perfect town for young and old, singles and families.
